The Best Way To Predict The Future

During July and August or 2006, I took ‘time-out’ to finish the manuscript of my first book; “Your Future in A Coffee Cup– The Art of Divining with Coffee Grounds”, published the following year and now has become something of a collector’s item! It was an exciting and new venture for me – to see my name on a published book!

At that time, amidst papers, numerous cups of Turkish coffee, and photographs of sample readings, I suddenly remembered the birthday of one of my oldest and dearest friends, whom I met when I first arrived in London and was a second mother to me.

I tore myself away from writing and hurried out to go and visit her. Just before I left her, her son telephoned to remind her to give me my present which he had brought from the USA while on a business trip. I quickly unwrapped my unexpected gift to see a beautiful ceramic wall plaque in pastel colours with the following phrase painted on it: “The best way to predict your future is to create it”.

When I was back at home I unwrapped it and hung it up on the wall; and it made me realise that a life-cycle was about to be completed. I remembered the first tea leaf reading, back in 1992, which the late Maureen Treanor gave me – may she rest in peace.

One day, while I was visiting my former teacher and friend, Merryn José who is Maureen’s daughter, on Kings Road in London for afternoon tea; Maureen offered to read my tea leaves. I could only see three leaves at the bottom of the cup, but Maureen unravelled an epic, that unfolded over many years since.

She described in detail where I lived, on which floor, with whom, what my talents are, and what will happen. “You’re a writer” she said softly. I wasn’t then, so I shrugged it off. “Just sit and write every day for twenty minutes” she told me. And so, I did!

I soon joined a poetry club in London and many poems published in literally magazines, then started writing a column for Prediction magazine in the UK, and then an intuitive astrology column for an international publication, and started PS-Magazine, the first online holistic magazine… leading up to having my first book published.

I am reminded of a simple truth, which still guides me today. In the words of Paulo Coelho, in his book The Alchemist:

When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

A journey had started long time ago with one small, twenty-minute, step a day! Whatever your journey may be, just remember that the best way to predict the future is to create it.
