tri-Dosha, the only Ayurvedic Spa Consultancy in the UK, launched its first branded Ayurvedic Massage Therapy course in August 2005, with the co-operation of the Middlesex School of Complimentary Therapy (www.mscm.biz).
Firmly rooted in Indian tradition, the professional intensive six day training programme will equip therapists with the techniques required to perform traditional treatments such as Indian head-neck massage, shirodhara (warm oil poured on the forehead), and udwarthanam (slimming therapy). With increasing interest and growing demand of clients requiring indigenous healing and spiritual renewal, tri-Dosha Ayurvedic Massage Therapy training is focused on those interested in becoming an ayurvedic massage practitioner or integrating ayurveda with other holistic practices.
What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda, the name given to the ancient Indian science of life, is said to have originated 4000 years ago, and is believed to be the oldest health system known to man today. Rather than treating symptoms, it treats the whole person, combining nutrition, herbal remedies, yoga and massage.
What is Ayurvedic Massage Therapy?
Massage is an important part of Ayurvedic Therapy, but rather than concentrating on Western techniques that manipulate body contour, it works on the marma points, opening up ‘energy’ channels which are believed to cause an imbalance or blockage in the body. It also employs herbal remedies to combat ailments which are traditionally treated in the West with prescription medicine.
Ayurveda in the UK
Representation in the UK has been limited - in fact to date there has been little training available in the UK solely in Ayurvedic Massage Therapy - making it difficult to integrate Ayurveda into the mainstream holistic health market.
