Historical background
A colonic hydrotherapy is a gentle warm bath using warm filtered water. Under no pressure to brigade: The water is introduced to the colon via the rectum using disposable equipment. Records of this practice date back to 1500 BC, although I have only been practising for 16 years!
People often ask me, how can I do this job and I have to say sincerely that I love what I do. I truly believe that colonic can have a very important impact on our health and is the key to healthy living. In fact many of my clients use colonic as part of the healing health regime. That is eating well, choosing exercising and cleaning out, rather like servicing your car!
Your are what you eat
Equally, I treat people with bowel problems such as IBS, constipation and Candida, also clients who are being treated for cancer as some medications can cause constipation. These days parasites are very prevalent, some 200 million people worldwide suffer from this problem.
What not to eat
The colon is a wonderful organ when functioning correctly, but 20th century lifestyle, diet and medication are compromising. Certainly diet is the most important for the function of the colon. Fruit and vegetables, particularly green, have the best Fibre/water combination. Mucus forming foods are best avoided; these include dairy products, white starches and red meat. The saying 'you are what you eat' could not be more true. By consuming refined and devitalised foods, we fail to nourish a very organ responsible for the evacuation of waste.
Know your colon!
The colon is between 5 and 5 1/2 feet long and 1/2" in diameter. It is made up of pockets, which over time can fill with all the faecal matter which can slowdown the peristaltic motion; often causing a sluggish bowel. The longer this old matter stays in the colon, the more toxins will be generated. These toxins can be transported into the circulatory system, causing other health problems; notably the skin, which is the largest organ that provides elimination, can become clogged causing a spotty complexion. Other conditions include bad breath, abdominal bloating and gas, headaches, lower back pain, mental confusion, etc.
A compacted colon will also prevent absorption of nutrients and the inability to grow one's own good bacteria. For a healthy bowel, we should eliminate a minimum of once a day, and the transit time for food from mouth to rectum, should be no more than 24 hours, although in the western world with a poor diet this can be 60 to 70 hours.
Preparing for your treatment
U.S. bowel expert Bernard Jansen believes 'poor bowel management is at the root of all health problems'. To prepare for the first colonic, I ask my clients to eat only fruit and vegetable, and take freshly prepared juices for 2 days before they treatment if possible.
The treatment itself takes between 30 to 45 minutes, occasionally longer; is painless and not in the least embarrassing. The numbers of treatments depend on the individual. I allow one half hours for the first treatment which includes a consultation. It is advisable course of acidophilus is taken to harmonise the bowel Flora. The cost of the treatment is £70.
