Sufi Meditation
Sell your cleverness and buy bewilderment;
Cleverness is mere opinion,
Bewilderment is intuition.
Rumi
Journey into the garden of the heart with meditation, chanting, dance and music.
For many the word 'meditation' conjures up expectations of a silent practice focussing on a deep inner experience, either in private or in a group - sometimes guided by a voice or music, but always quiet and tranquil. Even experienced practitioners are prone to forget that meditation can take other forms - more physical, passionate, and vocal - that are at least as old as the silent traditions of the desert fathers.
The Sufi Meditation Circle uses practices traditionally known as zikr, common to most Sufi tariqas - chants, hymns, and ritual movements that date back centuries. While the forms have an religious context and expression, no 'belief' is asked for in our practice - only heartfelt, ecstatic practice itself.
While the forms provide a sacred context, only you can have your experience.
Sufi Meditation Every Monday 6:45 - 9PM
With sacred movements and chants, body and spirit become conscious of the universe within to sing in praise of the Absolute. Starting at 6:45pm each Monday, short talks explore:
- the interior experience and unknowable God
- non-dualism and the Beloved
- the unregenerate ego (nafs) and the Stages
- the Sufi cosmology
- Sufi orders (tariqas) and dervish practices
After each talk the student is invited to deepen the experience by joining the regular meditation, (zikr) from 7:15-8:30pm.
