All the life stemmed out of water. The Koran

Modern life has created a lot of unnecessary suffering for all of us. Whatever happens in the outer world directly effects our inner world in one way or another. And, unfortunately, at the present time most of the world's events are not giving us any pleasure, joy, comfort, hope, love or sense of belonging. Our day to day life also has less positive effects on us. Frustration, irritation, despair, anger, depression, panic, fear, guilt and other negative feelings and emotions have become an integral part of the inner lives of men and women.

You do not need a professional healer to tell you the destructive effects of these 'little devils' on your being and spirit. Every negative feeling and emotion makes us more and more separated from nature and other living beings. It also blocks our natural inner growth and, if we hold any negative energy inside us for a long period, it will harm our physical body as well. A very tangible and undesirable result of one's own thought forms, mostly born out of intense reactions, egotism, vanity, and other negative personality traits.

It is imperative for us to release these negative and destructive energies out of our systems on a regular basis and thus make a space within our inner selves for new, fresh and life-giving energy to come in. There are many methods and practices to get rid of our negativity and make ourselves more positive; to relax and live in tranquillity and peace.
Here I present a simple method of releasing negative energies that I use in my own healing practice and which many of my clients have found amazingly beneficial.

Healing Water

Water has tremendous healing qualities. It can be a catalyst in our endeavour to change ourselves. Even scientists now admit that water is imperative for the creation of life. A prominent French scientist tried to prove in laboratory conditions that water has memory. Mystics, Shamans, yogis, healers and wise men of native cultures (and many religions) knew the hidden powers of water thousands of years before the scientists discovered it.

Polynesian shamans, the practitioners of Huna, known as Kuhunas knew the mysterious power of water. Enid Hoffman writes, 'Mana is life energy. Other words for mana are: vital force, orgone, odyle, psychic energy, and prana. In Huna, as in many other philosophies, water is used as a metaphor for mana. It flows, it has waves, it permeates substances, and it brings life.'

Sufis have always used water for all sorts of healing and even extractions. The Sufi method of using water is that they pray on the water and then blow into it and change its quality. They turn ordinary water into healing water and it works. I, myself, have seen hundreds of people healed in this way.

My late aunt, Chanan Bibi , who was the spiritual head of our ancestral shrine in Punjab for four decades, even used oils (a dense form of the element of water) in the same way to heal people. People would come with bottles of oil and she would pray on those bottles and then open the lid and blow her breath into the bottles. For years, I never saw a person come back, complaining that no healing had occurred (though some got more healing and some less).

Bowl of Water Exercise

One important quality of water is that it absorbs. We can benefit by using this characteristic of water.

• Take a bowl and fill it with cold tap water. If you can find a clay bowl, that is marvellous. Otherwise any kind of bowl will work.

•Sit comfortably, preferably on the floor, and place the bowl in front of you. Then call your negative emotions, feelings, memories, one by one, and feel that emotion with full intensity in your body. It will usually manifest itself as a feeling in your solar plexus or heart chakra. But it does not matter where in the body that negative feeling emerges.

•Then push with your hands all the negativity out from your body and put it in the bowl of water. You may visualise the negativity as a sludge coloured substance. Imagine that the water is absorbing all of it without any complaint or discomfort. Repeat the process as many times as you need to until you feel that all the negative energy has gone out of your body. At one sitting, you may deal with only one negative emotion or feeling. You can do more sittings as necessary.

•When you have finished and there no more negative substance left, then thank the water spirit for absorbing all of that. Then throw that water into the soil in your garden or out in nature, preferably on the grass. Then imagine and visualise that Mother Earth (Gaia) has swallowed up all your negativity, never to return, and now you are free of those uncomfortable feelings. Thanks Mother Earth for her role in your liberation.

Bless you.
