Why I love Myth, Fable, & Fantasy - August 2010 News Letter

Self portrait by my niece Nour Kashlan I hope you’re enjoying your summer - for us here in the UK, it has been really “autumnal”, with much needed, however, continuous rain and winds that have already started to shake off tree leaves to the ground.

My summer has been really busy, I had a chance however, to continue working on my website managed to update few more pages. I particularly enjoyed working on the recommended books lists where updated links to Amazon UK as well as Amazon USA have been added for your convenience. I realised that the Myths section was probably my favourite of the recommended book lists.

I don't know about you, but when I was a child, I never really enjoyed being lectured at. I would soon lose interest, and stop paying attention. But whenever something was related to me in a story form, with wit, charm and fantasy- my ears perked up.

Many times, the language of symbols, fables and magic, conveys and expresses spiritual teaching in a charming, fun and profound manner; without having to feel that one has been "lectured". Partly, I believe, because they speak to the child within – who refuses to grow up but continues to be inspired by imagination. And mostly because I believe the soul understands and responds to creativity. Part of developing our spirituality is to do with developing our creative ability and freeing our imagination.

I remember when I was about 10 years old, my brother returned home from England, and came to greet me while holding The Hobbit under his arms (not in his suit case) as if he could not wait to give it to me. I sensed immediately that this was a meaningful gift. I started reading it and could not put it down.

It was this book that ignited my interest in myth that sealed my continuing interest in fable and fantasy. I also came to appreciate how rich is my own culture is in myth and fantasy. Most of us would know about Arabian 1001 Nights; but wait till you read The Fables of Kalilah Wa Dimnah and Tales of Alhambra (hard to come by). You can see all those books in the Myth page.

By the time I was done working on that list, I realised that it is actually a list of favourite books that I personally own and treasure- which means books I would never lend out!

The Wonder of Dreaming, by Sahar Huneidi
Dreams, if you like, are the domain where it is possible to "experiment" with probable outcomes, or realities, in a safe manner. I believe that since they are also a product of our own personal mind, which is constructed or shaped through our perception, belief system and experiences; we each have and will develop our own personal dictionary of interpreting our dreams.

"Can I ask you something? As an intuitive you must regularly feel energies and sometimes feel the essence of them before they are due to manifest fully. In the last 2 weeks this is what happened to me, something is coming 'full circle' that I became aware of initially last June. Papered Over: Exploring the New Testament’s Inconsistencies and Contradictions, by Jared Collard
Papered Over is an exploration of some of the New Testament’s most puzzling contradictions and inconsistencies. Author Jared Collard dares to ask questions free from the orthodoxy and mythology that has shrouded Christian history for two thousand years. If we accept the time period of the gospels, Jesus was not in the tomb for three days and three nights as the Christ, himself, foretold in Matt. 12:38-40!

Healing past-life wounds
When an individual is faced with emotional confusion, it is because a disconnection with one's essence has occurred. The more pronounced the emotional response is, the more likelihood of a past life thread connecting to one's current life. The most important thing is to determine what the core emotional response is. For example, when faced with self-doubt, do you feel abandoned? Do you feel that life is a struggle? Do you feel victimized? Do you feel you are not good enough? And so on.

The DNA Diet: Prevent and Fight Chronic and Lethal Diseases like Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, Cancer
There are many urban legends out there about nutrition and most of them are 100% wrong and can easily compromise our health. For example, most people believe that butter is a shortcut to heart disease, but in fact recent studies prove that margarine and vegetable oils are actually associated with cardiovascular disease while butter consumption had the exact opposite effect on people’s health. This amazing new book shows you how your food can act as a powerful medicine or a poison.
