Psychism manifests on different levels, it all depends on how it happens for you.  And, in allowing it to develop, it will be expressed as clairvoyance (clear seeing), clairaudience (clear hearing) or clairsentience (clear sensing).  As your intuitive process becomes more sensitive, you will begin to become aware on one of these levels.

A medium, in the accepted sense, will be working in one or more of these ways, on the astral level.  This means that they are in touch with a level of consciousness just beyond their own and will be contacting spirits who have lived in physical form and have passed on. 

Life after Death

They are drawn to mediums as it gives them an opportunity to communicate with someone who is incarnate.  When a person dies and the spirit leaves the body, it will usually go through a period of self-evaluation, looking back over its life, and may then want to communicate with a loved one who is still incarnate, to express sorrow, something left unsaid, or perhaps to ask for forgiveness or offer advice.

If its last life has been dominated by some form of extreme belief, it sometimes become earthbound because it is afraid to move on, fearing judgement, punishment or retribution.  This is, of course, very sad as, in my understanding, God is unconditional love, far beyond judgement, punishment, revenge etc. 

The medium’s skills may also be expressed intuitively through a sensitivity towards feeling, sensing, seeing or hearing, with or without the addition of playing cards, the Tarot, Runes, etc.

Life after Birth

When a spirit comes into incarnation, it brings with it everything it has experienced in the past, in and out of incarnation, including resolved and unresolved issues.  Its intention for this life may include a spiritual need to help others, to find their life’s purpose and meaning. 

So, when the person’s psychic potential begins to develop, it will bring with it a sense of that purpose, and will, often unconsciously, feel the need to contact levels of consciousness far beyond their own.  This is known as ‘channelling’.

In my own case, I began to develop when I fell into a deep trance – almost by accident – and allowed a spirit of a departed soul to speak through me.  The process continued with much evidential material.  One experience involved a French lawyer who gave invaluable advice to someone.  He gave his name and the part of Paris in which he had lived.  We were able to check the details, which proved to be accurate.

Channelling- A warning!

After a couple of years of working in this way, I suddenly felt a shift in consciousness and my guide and mentor, H-A, first made himself known through me.  And then, as the years moved on, this relationship transformed into a more telepathic form of communication – what I would, today, call channelling.

Let me give a warning about channelling.  On the plus side, it’s happening more and more now – and that’s great!  But it also has its dangers.  For channelling can easily give you a false sense of power with other people - and even yourself – believing that you are God’s answer to the universe! I’m sure you have met that type. 

I am always guided by H-A’s immortal words: 

“The moment of finding your importance

is the moment of losing it.”

So, beware!  Learn how to channel properly under good tuition, always challenge the guidance (if it is of the light, it will not mind being challenged) and use sensible means of psychic protection.  I’ll need to talk about this more in a future ‘Neate Ideas’.
