An extraordinary group of nomadic Bedouins from the Sinai, who perform Bedouin Sufi and Rabba folk songs and dancing. Performing on the traditional 5 string Simsimiya, Magroona (reed pipe) and Rabba (1 string wolf fiddle) and an assortment of scavenged percussion including jerry cans and ammunition boxes.
Their perfomance also includes a coffee grinder who prepares and serves coffee for the audience, reflecting the ancient links between coffee Sinai and Mecca.
The Bedouin Jerry Can Band will be supported by Moneim Adwan’s Rouh Waheda – One Unique Soul. The group features Moneim Adwan, Shaban el Sayed and Mando al Sowerki from Gaza and Egypt on voice/oud, kawâla/ney and percussion. Their performance is part of Tapis Volant, a series of initiatives which are set to excite ears and challenge minds and involve a range of exciting musicians from across the Mediterranean, France and the UK.
Tapis Volant is the creation of a unique combination of different organisations – A.M.I (Centre Natioanal de Développement pour les Musiques Actuelles) in Marseilles, Hodage – Middle East Musical Creations in Gaza City, In Concert in Beirut, Santralistanbul in Istanbul and Serious in London
