Hiromi's Home Cooking
December 2011
Dear Sahar,
Welcome to my first newsletter.

Thank you so much for supporting Hiromi's Home Cooking this past year. It has been a lot of fun for me to do and I've met some amazing people. Below is the schedule for the winter classes beginning on 15 February. I'll be going home to Tokyo for a couple of weeks after the new year, so I'll have some new things to share.

Try the Avocado Miso Bowl in the recipe section below. An incredibly easy and tasty dish that you don't need a lesson to prepare.

Recipe

Here is a quick tasty dinner for two.

Avocado and Miso Bowl (serves 2)

Avocado 1

Green onion 2

Sesame oil 1 tsp for non stick frying pan, more for regular pan

For the sauce

Miso 2 tsp

Mirin 2 tsp

Sake 1 tsp

Light soy sauce 1 tsp

Ginger ½ a section, grated

Warm rice 2 bowls

Toasted sesame seeds to taste

1. Peel and seed avocado, cut into chunks.

2. Slice green onions thinly on the diagonal.

3. Combine the sauce taking care to turn into a smooth paste and set aside.

4. Heat sesame oil in a frying pan, sauté green onions on a high heat until wilted. Then drop heat to a small flame and continue sautéing until golden.

5. Add the avocado, heat through then pour the sauce over and immediately turn off heat. Use the residual heat to mix the sauce in.

6. Serve on top of rice with sesame seeds sprinkled on top.

Kinomi news
Some of you know that the roasted nuts I serve in class have turned into a product of their own. They are called Kinomi and can be found in SSOV, Urban Kings and Alara in the Kings Cross area as well as all Harvey Nichols branches. The business is growing slowly and is a great learning experience. Fingers crossed for 2012.
