Simply Color Therapy presents an informative guide on how the world of colour affects our lives. From practical, what colours to choose to create specific moods, to the spiritual; and also how to breathe colour for meditation purposes. The author, Nina Ashby, sets out the information in a clear concise manner and explains how the use of colour can enhance our every day lives. The book includes beautiful illustrations too.
Specific information provided about each shade of colour was particularly useful. For instance, apricot (a shade of orange) is said to stimulate the appetite. Colour breathing, using a shade of light pink, can help with weight loss. Blood red socks keep
our feet warm; yellow can ease a headache and wearing an outfit of pure white keeps us cool. The effect of wearing colours in combination is interesting too, thanks to this book I have finally realised why as girls we found our school uniform so unbearable! Apparently, wearing grey and mauve together can bring a feeling of shame.
Different uses of colour are well covered, each one described in separate chapters. Subjects such as Décor, The Aura, Divination, Astrology and Crystals, are discussed in an easy to understand format. By far, the most informative was the chapter on Colour and the Chakras. Personally I would be over the moon if each of my own chakras reflected the attitude and therefore the precise colour that nature intended. Nina Ashby writes, “no colour is good or bad in a chakra, colours reflect only what is – and the colour changes when the person changes the attitude that creates the colour”.
Simply Colour Therapy is enjoyable, and is a good starting point for those who wish to learn about the energy of colour and how to benefit from each colour’s particular energy. Ashby also provided detailed ‘technical’ information which can be useful when healing. For example, violet has a tremendously high vibration, a frequency of 750 trillion Hz per second.
This book reminded me of some of the information that I had forgotten about colour, and also taught me few things, like colour breathing, which I found to be effective. It will certainly sit on my bookshelf, in the section reserved for good reference books.
